Material
Goatskin / Goat Mesh

This leather mesh is made from goat leather that has been vegetable-tanned and handwoven using a traditional cobblestone-style weave.
Over time, the leather softens, develops a rich sheen, and gradually deepens in color—becoming more beautiful with age.
The mesh is crafted from long leather strips, each formed by carefully joining smaller cut pieces.
Because of this process, it takes roughly five times more leather to create the same surface area compared to a typical leather product.
Each piece is woven with precision and care at our atelier in India, home to skilled artisans known for their craftsmanship.
Time and dedication are poured into every detail, resulting in a leather weave that is not only strong, but also light and airy in appearance.
To preserve the supple texture of the woven surface, we intentionally use a flexible adhesive.
With use and age, you may occasionally notice some unraveling at the seams of the leather strips—an honest expression of the material's handmade nature.

Goatskin / Bare

This goat leather is finished with minimal processing to preserve its natural texture and supple feel. Its fine grain, strength, and soft touch are key characteristics, and we intentionally keep slight color variations as part of the leather’s unique character.
In cooler conditions, surface oils may appear white—simply wipe or warm the area to blend it back in. Impressions from sharp or heavy items may remain, but these marks become part of the leather’s charm, growing into a personal patina over time.

Pigskin / Hallie

From the very beginning of REN, we’ve cherished our original pigskin leather, HALLIE.
Back then, cowhide was the standard—valued for its flawless surface and easily recognizable quality.
But we were searching for something different, something that reflected our own values. That’s when we encountered HALLIE.
Pigskin was often used only as a lining material due to its visible scratches and natural variations in color.
But we saw something else in it: it was incredibly lightweight, densely structured, and surprisingly strong for its thinness.
It was breathable, supple like fabric, and full of untapped potential.
By studying how texture and density vary by section, exploring dyes, and finding ways to minimize waste from the raw hides, we’ve been able to refine this material into something that now reaches the hands—and hearts—of many.

Goatskin / Still

This original goat leather was developed with a focus on achieving a soft, relaxed feel.
Though supple and pliable, it has a dense fiber structure that gives it a gentle firmness and resilience.
Its fine, naturally glossy grain adds to its character. The surface (grain side) is highly resistant to friction and scratches, and the leather retains its shape well—even when used to carry heavier items in a bag.
The high density of this goat leather also plays a role in how the final product is constructed.
Holes can be punched close to the seams to allow cords to pass directly through the leather, and the clean edge of the raw cut makes for elegant draping.
To achieve the ideal texture, selecting the right raw hide is essential.
Even hides that appear to be evenly grained and firm may behave differently once tanned.
With time and experience, we've learned how to identify the best possible base material to create the leather we envision.

Cowhide / Baby Buffalo

This natural leather is crafted with care and expertise to fully reveal the character of buffalo hide sourced from animals under six months old.
It features the bold, distinctive grain unique to buffalo, yet surprises with a refined and elegant touch. Though often used for delicate items like gloves, we find it compelling to apply it across a variety of products.
Indigo Blue is a custom dye developed through years of research with a tannery in Soka City. Achieving faithful color reproduction and full penetration to the core required time and patience. The leather is intentionally dyed with subtle irregularities, creating a light, translucent blue reminiscent of a painted wash.
With use, the surface absorbs natural oils and deepens into a clear, glass-like finish. Variations in grain and tone are embraced as proof of its natural origin.
